Empower Your Past, Embrace Your Future: Moving Forward with Strength and Purpose

Survivor Mode:

In times of traumatic experiences, chaos or crisis, whether real or perceived, the brain’s reaction is to go into fight, flight, freeze or fawn response and we enter “survival mode.” Initially these responses are healthy and a way of keeping us safe. Extended periods of time living in “survival mode” can keep us from living the full, joyful, empowered lives we are each meant to live.

Am I in Survivor Mode?

·      Brain Fog/Lack of Focus – there’s a project or task that needs to get done, but you just can’t seem to focus long enough to get it done.

·     Fatigue – the usual amount of sleep that would have you ready for the day isn’t enough. You seem to be tired for no reason.

·     Impulsivity – this can look like shopping, overeating or over drinking. Your ability to control your impulses is compromised.

·      Loss of Memory – you might ask someone the same question more than once because you can’t remember their answer. Or you can’t remember things that happened throughout the day.

·      Emotionally Reactive – things that usually would have been no big deal make you cry or angry more easily.

·      Forgetting to Care for Basic Needs – neglect of basic hygiene needs like showering, or brushing teeth. Do you forget to eat? Can you remember the last time you showered?
